Age 50+ Walk & Learn: Nature (Southside Park)
November 7, 2024 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeAge 50+ Walk & Learn: Nature (Southside Park)
Explore one of Pittsburgh’s most underrated parks — Southside Park. This park has been undergoing an incredible revitalization with tons of community members and partners assisting with clean-ups and Smash & Trash events. When you enter the park, you’ll see tons of new saplings and native plant species recently planted. This park is glowing up right before our eyes!
Participants should prepare for a 1 mile hike at a slow pace with 50% of the hike being uphill. Terrain will be varied including compacted dirt, pavement, stones, steps, and small streams. Participants should be comfortable crossing uneven terrain, stepping down larger steps, and potentially crossing a few wet rocks. This hike is not recommended for individuals requiring assistance by use of canes, walkers, or rollators.
Trip Leader: Senior Park Ranger Erica Heide has been with the Park Ranger Program since 2017. Her love of conservation and background in Environmental Science made her the first ranger in Frick Park. She has a special place in her heart for Southside Park!
