“Best of Sharpsburg” Paddle Series
Introducing this special paddle series to feature some of Sharpsburg’s best businesses and organizations! Each installment will be sponsored by a local establishment offering a free item or service in their wheelhouse. Come experience all the magic this borough has to offer.

Next up – Nanci Goldberg, owner of Ketchup City Creative and Fox Chapel Area School District art teacher of 32 years, will guide us in a watercolor exploration inspired by the Allegheny River.
The natural world has inspired artists since the beginning of time. Now it’s YOUR turn for nature-based creative exploration! We’ll start the morning on shore, as Nanci goes over some water color basics. Next, we’ll discuss paddling safety and launch our kayaks to explore all the beauty that Sharpsburg’s waterways has to offer. Nanci will discuss color, lighting, and composition while pointing out the wildlife and plant species greeting us in the morning sun. Participants will be invited to notice the sensations around them and take stock of the emotions they feel as they slowly meander around 6 Mile Island. Finally, we’ll head back to shore to creatively express what we experienced and what inspired us with our individual watercolor kits.
This class will be great for beginners of both paint and paddling! Each participant will receive:
- Kayak, PFD, and paddle rental
- Paddling safety and instruction
- Guided watercolor exploration
- Basic watercolor kit (paints & brush)
- Watercolor paper pad
