Full Moon Paddle

Take in North Park Lake at night with the help of a full moon! We’ll head on the water after sundown and be on the water to watch the moon rise over the trees as we explore what the lake has to offer at night. All boats will have lights on them, but feel free to bring a headlamp if you’d like to use it. We’ll also learn more about the moon and its phases as well as how the moon affects Earth’s waters!  Funded in part by WeConservePA and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Pennsylvania Recreational Trails Program funded through the Federal Highway Administration. *Previous kayaking experience required. The moon is scheduled to rise at 9:12PM. Our trained guides know where to go to best see the moon. It may take some time for the moon to fully appear over the tree line and we cannot guarantee the weather will be clear for prime moon viewing. This event will occur even if there are clouds in the forecast.

Trip Leader: Our trained Kayak Pittsburgh Excursionists will safely navigate the group around North Park Lake throughout the evening. 

Activity level: Intermediate – this paddle occurs at night and will not cover any beginner level instruction. While not a lot of experience is required, we recommend having some previous experience for this event even if it is not at night.   

What to Bring: While kayaking, you might get dripped on or splashed occasionally. It is best to wear clothes that dry quickly. Wear comfortable shoes that could potentially get wet. Please additionally keep in mind that anything you bring with you on the water could get wet.

Distance: Participants can expect to cover roughly 1-1.5 miles on the lake. 

Starting Location: We will meet and launch from Kayak Pittsburgh North Park located at the North Park Boathouse. Parking can be found in the boathouse parking lot or along Tennis Court Road. The google maps link is below: https://maps.app.goo.gl/AtzD2fzGJnC4oRi16

Additional Information: 

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time to ensure that the trip gets underway on time. Dress for the weather (Venture Outdoors trips proceed rain or shine!), bring water and wear comfortable closed toe shoes. By purchasing a ticket, you acknowledge that you are physically able to undertake the activity described above.
