Hike & Hammer
Step back in time to discover the artistry of 1900s blacksmithing at the W.A. Young & Sons Foundry and Machine Shop. Located in the historic district of Rices Landing, Greene County, this Machine Shop is a fascinating industrial treasure.
Start your adventure with a guided tour of the centuries-old blacksmith shop, pattern shop, hardware store, and foundry. Observe a live demonstration of W.A. Young’s line shaft-driven technology. Built in 1900, the shop produced parts for steamboats, coal mines, railroads, and supported local small businesses. When it closed in 1965, the building was locked, leaving all of its tools and equipment in place—perfectly preserving its 25-machine network for future generations.
After the tour, we’ll enjoy a scenic 5-mile out-and-back hike along the Greene River Trail which parallels the Monongahela River.
Ticket price includes the cost of the machine shop tour. Ticketing closes on 11/1 at 10am.
