Join Trip Leader Sheri Dutter for a moderately challenging 2-mile hike along the beautiful Slippery Rock Creek Trail in McConnells Mill State Park, located in Lawrence County. This park spans 2,546 acres and the Kildoo trail that is beautiful this time of year! Formed by the draining of glacial lakes thousands of years ago, the gorge boasts steep sides and a valley floor scattered with massive boulders. The trail route includes some climbing, rocks, and roots, making it moderately difficult. It is an out-and-back.
One of this hike’s highlights is a visit to a historic gristmill and covered bridge built in the 1800s. The McConnells Mill Covered Bridge, constructed in 1874, is one of the longest Howe-style truss bridges in Pennsylvania and was recognized for its historical significance by being placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
This hike is perfect for those looking to enjoy beautiful scenery, learn about local history, and experience the beauty of McConnells Mill State Park.
