Night Hiking for Volunteer Trip Leaders
October 9, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
FreeNight Hiking for Volunteer Trip Leaders
As daylight dwindles, we face the challenge of fitting in great hikes during the evenings. Trip Leaders led several successful night hikes last winter, and we want to offer more to the community this season.
Night hiking extends your outdoor time and gives you a fresh perspective. Whether you’re navigating by moonlight or stargazing, it’s a unique experience, especially for urban dwellers. Unlike daytime hikes, you rely less on sight and more on your other senses, like hearing, which connects you more deeply with nature.
We’ll meet at Trip Leader Sara Feley’s aunt’s house (address to come) for warm drinks and snacks before embarking on a 3-mile hike in nearby Schenley Park. During the hike, we’ll practice using both red and white headlamp lights and discuss night hiking best practices. It’s a practical (and fun!) session for those interested in exploring the outdoors after dark. We’ll provide headlamps for all volunteers to use.
