River Paddle Safety Course
July 23 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeRiver Paddle Safety Course
Join us as we take our mobile fleet of kayaks out to the Monaca launch on the Ohio River. On this trip, we’ll learn best practices for navigating our area’s waterways and even meet representatives from organizations that help keep all boaters safe! This program is free for participants – it is generously funded through a grant from the Port of Pittsburgh.
Trip Leader: Our trained Kayak Pittsburgh Excursionists will guide the group on the water and are wonderful resources for kayaking technique as well as navigation information!
Activity level: Beginner – no experience required! This program takes place on a river. While the current and water traffic are usually not an issue on our trips, if you would rather learn about kayaking on a body of water with no current or motorized boats, check out our events at our North Park location!
What to Bring: While no one plans to tip a boat kayaking is considered a “get wet” sport. You might get dripped on or splashed occasionally. It is best to wear clothes that dry quickly. Wear comfortable shoes that could potentially get wet.
Distance: This program will begin with an on land presentation from guest speakers. We’ll then head on the water. Depending on the pace of the group, participants can expect to travel roughly 1.0-1.5 miles on the water.
Starting Location: This trip launches from the Monaca Access ramp in Monaca, PA. The google maps link is as follows: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gSaZayKv4nycU2VMA
Ticket Sales Close: Ticket sales close 24 hours before the event.
Additional Info:
