FreeTick Talk: Tips, Prevention, & a South Park Hike
Did you know that ticks can transmit more than just Lyme disease? Since tick bites are often painless, it’s easy to miss them. That’s why it’s so important to check yourself after spending time outside. Lyme disease is on the rise, with 1,485 cases reported in Allegheny County in 2023 alone. While ticks are most active in the warmer months, they can show up whenever temperatures are above freezing.
Join Nick from the Allegheny County Health Department for an informative presentation about Lyme disease and the ticks you’ll find in Pennsylvania. In just 40–45 minutes, you’ll learn how to prevent tick bites, remove them safely, and understand more about these tiny pests. Stick around for a Q&A session with tick samples you can check out up close and helpful info to take home.
After the talk, we’ll head out for an easy-paced guided two-mile hike in South Park. Come for the important information, stay for the fresh air!
