FreeAge 50+ Walk & Learn: Nature (Schenley Park)
Our recent hikes in Schenley Park have started from the Oakland side. This hike starts in the very center of the park near the ice rink and will follow the Bridle Trail for about 1.5 miles. Participants should prepare for a slow pace with 50% of the hike being uphill. Terrain will be varied including compacted dirt, pavement, stones, steps, and small streams. Participants should be comfortable crossing uneven terrain, stepping down larger steps, and potentially crossing a few wet rocks. This hike is not recommended for individuals requiring assistance by use of canes, walkers, or rollators.
Trip Leader: Ranger Nikki has been a park ranger for 5 years and working in outdoor education for the last decade. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crosswords, sewing, and mostly spending time with her family.Â
Activity level: Beginner
Distance: 1.5 mile
Starting Location: Schenley Oval Shelter – Shelter next to the tennis courts/track
We recommend that you try to park over by frisbee golf if you are uncomfortable with a lot of stairs. If you are good with stairs, park close to the long staircase and the shelter is right at the top.
Ticket Sales Close: Tuesday December 3rd at 10amÂ
Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time to ensure that the trip gets underway on time. Dress for the weather (Venture Outdoors trips proceed rain or shine!), bring water and wear comfortable closed toe shoes (must be closed toe). By purchasing a ticket, you acknowledge that you are physically able to undertake the activity described above.Â
