Peak Cycling – Top of the GAP
June 16, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$8.00 – $12.00The Great Allegheny Passage is an outstanding, world-famous rail trail with many beautiful segments between Pittsburgh and Cumberland, Maryland.
In this excursion, we make the highest and very best part of this wonderfully photographic trail accessible to everyone who can pedal a bike on a nearly flat, road-free route for 6 miles. We will be cycling at a leisurely pace on a trail with a fine, crushed limestone surface, near windmills in an upland area with streams, fields and woods. Our route is entirely on the Great Allegheny Passage trail in an area with no services, so pack a snack!
We will meet in Somerset County PA which is about a two-hour drive from downtown Pittsburgh. The nearest town is Meyersdale. We will stop for photos. Our turnaround and snack stop will be the grand overlook just east of the tunnel. We will pedal six miles of the best part of the GAP!
