Mindful Hiking Series: An Exploration of the Senses

  • Alyssa Crawford

Intentional time spent outdoors has been proven to reduce blood pressure, lower cortisol levels, improve concentration and memory, and more. Join us for a 2-hour outdoor experience rooted in mindfulness. You can expect light movement to prepare the body, a mindful walk between one and three miles, and nature meditation. Each outing, we will explore one of the five senses.

Week 1: We will slow down and pay attention to what we can see. Look for details and patterns you might not have noticed otherwise.

Week 2: Nature sounds have been shown to improve health and well-being. This week, we will get quiet and listen for what we can hear.

Week 3: What earthy aromas or essential oils can we smell out on the trail?

Week 4: You will be invited to “hike with hands,” or feel the different textures of tree bark, moss, and more.

Week 5: Using our sense of smell, we will imagine how things might taste. We will also share a tea ceremony to close out the series.

This mindful outdoor experience is suitable for all levels of experience and ability. Please wear comfortable walking shoes; bring clothing layers and a water bottle.

Your guide will be Alicia Broudy, who has been practicing and teaching yoga for 12 years. She is certified as a Mindful Outdoor Guide through Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.
