No Man’s Land Film Festival 2023

October 20, 2023 | Doors at 6pm | Films at 7pm

Join Venture Outdoors for the 3rd Annual Pittsburgh screening of the No Man’s Land Film Festival. Champion women, transgender, and gender-fluid communities with grit, hustle, determination, and boundless passion.

Explore Velum Fermentation Brewery while they serve up beers, cocktails, and mocktails. Forage for delicious bites, including a make-your-own s’mores bar. Try your hand at kayak corn hole or dryland fishing.

All ages event. Must be 21 years or older to purchase/consume alcohol.
Closed captions are included in the films.

Seating

BYOCC (Bring Your Own Camping Chair). The Velum warehouse has some seating, but you’re encouraged to bring more camping chairs, blankets, blow up couches, etc. The space is indoors.

Eating

FREE build-your-own-s’mores bar provided by the Venture Outdoors team. Plus, local grab-n-go camping meal company, Tippins Foods, is sharing taste tests of their (fully prepared) camp meals, as well as passing out snack packs. You are also welcome to bring your own dinner and snacks.

Bike to the Film Fest

Ride with our favorite bicycle advocacy group BikePGH from their offices in Lawrenceville to the Film Fest! See the route here.

Meet: 5pm | Ride Kickoff 5:15pm
No drop, chill ride (8-10 mph pace) on city streets and trails to Velum (route map to come). Bring lights, locks & helmets Folks are on their own to get home (no return ride). Bike racks will be provided outside of Velum Brewery.

Featured Local Film: Bitch Of A Race

Director: Danielle Dawn DiVito – Early Dawn Productions

Cyclist Anna Lena Kempen gave life to the idea for The Frigid Bitch Race over 9 years ago because there wasn’t a space for her in the male-dominated cycling field. She wanted to create an inclusive space for women (and quickly realized the importance of including all underrepresented genders). The race would be harder, longer, colder, and more terrible and awesome than other races, and it would be just for us.

Meet the Filmmaker: Elisa Varlotta

Collaborating with Gone Rogue Productions on the film Guerreras

Guerreras will investigate “how our identities intersect with our climbing experiences” and more specifically, “what it means to be a Latina climber.” The movie will present the untold story of six women in Colombia as well as connect climbers from all over the world through themes of womanhood, understanding our identities, and a shared love for climbing. Elisa introducers her film at No Man’s Land Film Festival and is working to raise funds for their final stretch to finish the making of the film. Hear from Elisa and join her raffle to help her reach her goal!
