22 in ‘22 Guided Trail Ride: Mon Valley Rail-Trails
August 14, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 3:30 pm
$10.0022 in ‘22 Guided Trail Rides
There are approximately 22 scenic, car-free, bike paths in the region. Let’s explore them all together! Bike every trail and fill out your passport along the way. Each trail is less than a 2-hour drive from Pittsburgh and we’ll bike between 10 – 24 miles. Best of all, each ride includes a discussion of the landscape and history by Earth Science Excursions, LLC geologist Fred Zelt.
Want to explore further? Check out the Wilds Weekends, where we’ll bike into the Pennsylvania Wilds.
Trip #18: Sheepskin & Mon Valley Rail-Trails
Cycle a nice bike path along the Monongahela River from Point Marion to Morgantown! We will stop and discuss points of interest along the way including the massive Fort Martin Power Station and Point Marion Lock and Dam. We will cycle 20 miles at a leisurely pace on this well maintained rail trail. Near the turnaround in Morgantown, we will have the opportunity to stop beside the trail for a break at Terra Café. If you want to cycle a longer route past the group turnaround or do a shorter trip by heading back before the turnaround, this trip is designed to accommodate you!
Bicycle helmets are required. The week before the excursion we will send those who have registered an email with more information about the path we will be cycling, what to bring and exactly when and where to meet at the start. If you want to rent a bike, we can recommend a bike rental and help transport up to three bikes. This trip is offered in partnership with Earth Science Excursions, LLC.
