Harrison Hills Geology and Nature Hike

Let’s explore segments of the Rachel Carson and Scouts Trails in scenic Harrison Hills Park in northeastern Allegheny County! On a 3-4 mile walk on trails with natural but moderately well maintained surfaces we will visit Rachel Carson Run, Rainbow Bridge, Allegheny River overlooks, an ancient river terrace that is now hundreds of feet above the Allegheny, landscape evolution in progress, and woodland flora.

In addition to interpreting the geology and landscapes we pass through, guide Fred Zelt will share some of his favorite Rachel Carson quotes about the natural environment. The trails in this area have moderate difficulty with hills, rocks, roots and lots of nature!
