Crouse Run Birding Hike

April 27 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am

$15.00

Crouse Run Birding Hike

Discover the natural charm of Crouse Run, a hidden gem once frequented by Rachel Carson during her student days where she would take the Butler Electric RR from Pittsburgh. Nestled in a 22-acre valley in Hampton Township, now known as the Crouse Run Nature Reserve, this location offers a scenic backdrop for observing the local wildlife, including the Louisiana Water Thrush which forage along the stream bed.

Join Audubon Master Birders, David Bennett and John John Dzikiy on this educational hike. As we explore the valley that Carson once studied, we’ll seek out the diverse bird species that call this exceptional spot home. We’ll celebrate the natural beauty that captivated Rachel Carson and now stands as a valuable haven for wildlife in Allegheny County.

Binoculars will be provided to all participants. Hiking boots boots and poles recommended as there are small stream crossings that may be challenging depending on water levels.

Difficulty Level: Level 3 – Moderate
Distance: 1 mile
Starting Location: The parking lot located at 2684 Wildwood Rd, Allison Park, PA 15101 (next to Mineo’s Pizza).

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time to ensure that the trip gets underway on time. Dress for the weather (Venture Outdoors trips proceed rain or shine!), bring water and wear comfortable closed toe shoes. By reserving a ticket, you acknowledge that you are physically able to undertake the activity described above.
