22 in ‘22 Guided Trail Rides

There are approximately 22 scenic, car-free, bike paths in the region. Let’s explore them all together!  Bike every trail and fill out your passport along the way. Each trail is less than a 2-hour drive from Pittsburgh and we’ll bike between 10 – 24 miles.  Best of all, each ride includes a discussion of the landscape and history by Earth Science Excursions, LLC geologist Fred Zelt.

Trip #3: Montour Trail

Experience the well-maintained, smooth asphalt of one of the most popular rail trail segments in western Pennsylvania: the Montour Trail in Peters Township, south of Pittsburgh!  We will pedal less than 10 miles at a leisurely pace on an out and back route.  If you want to pedal farther than the group at the turnaround, do a shorter trip by heading back before the group turnaround, or stop at a pizza place for lunch this trip is designed to accommodate you! 

Kids, pets in carriers and e-bikes are welcome; there are no road crossings on the segment we will pedal.  We will review and exercise proper trail etiquette in sharing the trail with walkers, joggers and cyclists.   

Bicycle helmets are required.  The week before the excursion we will send those who have registered an email with more information about the path we will be cycling, what to bring and exactly when and where to meet at the start. If you want to rent a bike, we can recommend a bike rental and help transport up to three bikes. This trip is offered in partnership with Earth Science Excursions, LLC.
