Beginner River Paddle – A WeConservePA Event
June 22 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
$20.00Beginner River Paddle
Have you attended one of our Beginner Paddles at North Park or already spent a lot of time paddling around the lake? Ready to test out kayaking on the river? Launching from Kayak Pittsburgh Sharpsburg, we’ll take in the sights and sounds of the Allegheny as we head down the river and back. We’ll cover the basics of kayaking while also explaining how to safely navigate rivers while in a kayak. Funded in part by WeConservePA and the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Pennsylvania Recreational Trails Program funded through the Federal Highway Administration.
Trip Leader: Our trained Kayak Pittsburgh Excursionists will introduce kayak gear and discuss how to safely navigate the rivers. We’ll also be joined be representatives from other water-based organizations like the US Coast Guard Auxiliary and the US Army Corps of Engineers for even more river navigation expertise!
Activity level: Beginner – no experience required. However, if you would like to learn kayaking on a body of water without motorized watercraft or a current, check out our Beginner Paddles at our North Park Location!
What to Bring: While kayaking is not necessarily a “get wet” sport, you might get dripped on or splashed occasionally. It is best to wear clothes that dry quickly. Wear comfortable shoes that could potentially get wet.  Â
Distance:Â The distance covered will depend on the pace of the group and how much time we spend on the water, but expect to paddle roughly 1-1.5 miles around the Sharpsburg launch.
Starting Location: This event will be launched from out Sharpsburg location at the end of the James Sharp Landing parking lot. Participants can park in the lot. If it is full, street parking on Main Street can be utilized. The Google Maps link is below: https://maps.app.goo.gl/jv7VokjHcAgMnf2E7
Ticket Sales Close: Ticket sales will close 24 hours prior to the event.Â
