Churchill Valley Greenway Hike

Discover the natural beauty of Churchill Valley Greenway, a former country club site that has transformed into a thriving green space for the benefit of the community. Abandoned for approximately a decade, this land has been reclaimed by nature and now serves as a sanctuary for a diverse range of native flora and fauna. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of local residents, the funds needed to protect the area were successfully raised, and in June 2021, the land was purchased and preserved by ALT (Allegheny Land Trust). This ensures that the greenway will remain a precious natural space for the enjoyment and well-being of current and future generations.

Located in the municipalities of Churchill and Penn Hills, the Churchill Valley Greenway stretches across Beulah Road on the former grounds of the Churchill Valley Country Club. The site boasts a network of former cart paths and community-established trails, situated alongside the Bullock Pens Park and Blackridge Civic Association.

Having reverted to a natural meadow over the years, the former golf course is now teeming with a remarkable array of native birds, animals, and wildflowers. Join Venture Outdoors for an invigorating 3.3-mile loop hike through the park. The majority of the trail consists of paved paths that wind around the perimeter of the property. Expect an elevation gain of 265 feet, including some moderate steep hills with a grade ranging from 5% to 8%.
