Join us for one outing, join us for all. This is where you belong.
Riverview Park Hike
High atop the North Side, Riverview Park’s 259 acres are one of Pittsburgh’s best hidden gems. Home to the historic Allegheny Observatory, this woodland park is the fourth largest municipal park in the city.
Join us as we venture along the trail less travelled on this easy hike along the Marshall Trail. Starting at the Park entrance, we will head down a set of steps to a lovely wide gravel trail, approximately a mile in length, that takes us through some beautiful greenery. At the path end, we will turn around and head back to the park entrance. We promise enough sights to make the trip back and wonderful as the trip out. Along the way, we will learn about the history of this amazing park and its place in Pittsburgh history.
We will be walking at a casual but steady pace upon a relatively flat trail, with little to no inclines other than the initial (and ending) set of steps. Round trip on the gravel path will take us a little less than 2 miles. You can expect an active time of 60-90 minutes, dependent on group speed and needs. There will be an option, dependent on the size and desire of the group, to explore a few declines and inclines on a parallel path upon on return hike to the trailhead.
Sturdy and supportive hiking or walking shoes are essential, and water for hydration is recommended. Sun hats and sun block are always smart choices. Check the weather and dress appropriately for the day. Hiking poles should not be necessary, though they are recommended as a safety feature. Should the group choose to travel off path, a walking stick will be your friend.
