Ghost Town Bike Ride

Ghost Town Bike Ride

Join Venture Outdoors for an adventure along a historic path, the Ghost Town Trail, spanning 46 miles across Indiana and Cambria Counties, Pennsylvania. This remarkable trail originated in 1991 through a generous donation of 16 miles of the former Ebensburg & Black Lick Railroad and derives its name from numerous mining towns that once existed along the railroad corridor. Notably, the Ghost Town Trail has earned the esteemed title of a National Recreation Trail, bestowed upon it by the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Venture Outdoors invites you to join us on a casually paced, 25 mile bike ride along a section of the Ghost Town Trail. Our journey will begin in Black Lick, meandering alongside the scenic Black Lick Creek, as we make our way to Dilltown. The return trip promises a gentle downhill slope (1% grade), providing a pleasant ride back. During the adventure, you’ll have a chance to explore the fascinating Buena Vista Furnace, a towering thirty-foot structure once responsible for producing up to 600 tons of iron annually, now a silent monument of the past. This is a well-maintained rail trail with a fine gravel surface suitable for road, gravel, hybrid and e-bikes.

As an added bonus, this trail seamlessly connects with the Hoodlebug Trail in Black Lick, offering you the option to enjoy some independent exploration before or after the main event. So, lace up your shoes and dust off your bike for an unforgettable day of history, nature, and camaraderie along the Ghost Town Trail. See you there!

Starting Location: Saylor Park – 1284 Old Indiana Rd, Black Lick, PA 15716
