Fallingwater Geology Walk & House Tour with Fred Zelt

Nestled in the scenic Laurel Highlands, Fallingwater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a unique organic architectural design that is regarded by many as Frank Lloyd Wright’s masterpiece. Built of very special local sandstone, on bedrock, with a large boulder built into the center of the interior living area, and cantilevered over a waterfall, the organic design of Fallingwater is in harmony with the geologic setting. Fred Zelt led the first-ever geologic study of this iconic site earlier this year. .

Discover Fallingwater from a fresh perspective during peak fall foliage as we explore it through the eyes of geologist Fred Zelt. Our Venture Outdoors excursion will include both a docent-led architecture tour of the house and a geology walk of the grounds with Fred. This excursion includes the opportunity to walk about three miles on gravel and firmed pack paths with some gentle inclines.

Fallingwater is more accessible than most outdoor venues. The Visitor Center includes a restroom, café and gift shop. A shuttle between the Visitor Center and house is available, and one wheelchair that fits inside the house can be reserved. Ticket sales close Wednesday, October 18 at noon.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time to ensure that the trip gets underway on time. Dress for the weather (Venture Outdoors trips proceed rain or shine!), bring water and wear comfortable closed toe shoes. By purchasing a ticket, you acknowledge that you are physically able to undertake the activity described above.
