Panhandle Ice Cream Ride
August 3 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Free – $20.00Panhandle Ice Cream Ride
Join us for a fun cycling adventure along the Panhandle Trail, a segment of the Industrial Heartland Trails Coalition’s 1,500-mile network spanning PA, WV, OH, and NY. The trail traces its origins back to the historic Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago, and St. Louis Railway, colloquially known as the Panhandle Route. In the 1860s, multiple railroads merged to form this iconic route, which derived its name from the narrow strip of northern West Virginia it traversed en route to Ohio. Initially leased by the Pennsylvania Railroad in the 1920s, the line later became part of the Penn Central and Conrail systems until it fell into disuse in 1991.
Starting (and ending) at Oakdale’s Helicon Brewery, our guided ride covers 15-20 miles at a moderate pace, showcasing scenic beauty and historic landmarks. The trail winds through the picturesque Allegheny Plateau, transitioning from crushed limestone to smooth asphalt. We’ll explore McDonald’s brick structures and take a stop for ice cream. The price of ice is not included with your ticket purchase.
