David L Lawrence Convention Center may be the new home of Kayak Pittsburgh downtown

Thursday Feb 10, The Sports and Exhibition Authority board of directors unanimously and enthusiastically approved a proposal from Venture Outdoors to relocate our dahntahn Kayak Pittsburgh rental concession to a potential location ON RIVER adjacent to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

If you recall from last month’s blog post, a much-needed construction project to refurbish the Roberto Clemente Bridge meant we needed to move out of the location that had been our home for 17 years.

This approval by The Sports and Exhibition Authority is the first step in an ongoing process to find a new home for Kayak Pittsburgh in the Downtown Pool.  In the coming months, our team will be working to engage community members and partners as we continue to plan what this new home would look like.

Relocating Kayak Pittsburgh’s concession to the Convention Center provides Venture Outdoors the opportunity to continue meeting our mission through youth outdoor learning classes and our community programming. The location will remain accessible via public transit and waterfront trails, which is critical to serving the larger community. New opportunities will also arise as we introduce Convention Center visitors to this uniquely Pittsburgh experience.

While this opportunity is exciting for us, we hope to hear your perspective too. Please sign up for the Compass newsletter for the latest updates and chances to provide your feedback.

We’re continuing to scout for new locations, both permanent and temporary, as the season unfolds.

See you on the water!
