Age 50+ Walk & Learn: Riverview Park with Ranger Merna
July 18 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeThe July Walk & Learn in Riverview Park will take place on the Bob Harvey trail. Although this trail is wide and machine built, (packed dirt and a fine gravel), there will be slight inclines and elevation changes with brief periods of rough rocky trail. We will be using a staircase to get down to the trail, so it is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. This hike is designed for folks who are new or returning to hiking and will be done at a gentle pace with rest and assistance as needed. Ranger Merna will be teaching us about local flora and fauna with a focus on plant identification. Physical Therapist Anne will discuss the benefits to cognitive health from moderate cardiovascular activity (like this walk!).
Ranger Merna is a naturalist and avid camper/backpacker. Merna has explored the wilderness all over America and once worked as a swamp tour guide on kayaks in the swamps of Louisiana. They missed their Northern roots and decided to settle down in the urban forest that is Pittsburgh. Merna loves to share their passion for ecosystems and especially for wild plants, with everyone they meet, which is why they became a park ranger!
