Age 50+ Walk & Learn with a Park Ranger
May 16, 2024 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeWalk & Learn with a Park Ranger
Enjoy some time outside that combines education and outdoor experience. This month’s focus will be on GAIT: Physical Therapist Anne will delve into how the way you walk affects your hike and how to be proactive about your ankle, knee and hip health. The hike is on paved trails so that we can focus on the way we walk and learn in a stable environment. There will be some hills and a few stairs.
Pittsburgh Park Ranger Marya will lead us on a gentle, beginner-oriented, 1-mile stroll through Mt. Washington’s Grandview Park, with stops along the way to discuss its unique history. Ranger Marya’s background in community organization with a focus on green spaces has informed her efforts to establish a community garden and membership in the Working Group for Seldom Seen Park.
Physical Therapist Anne will bookend this event with helpful information regarding osteopenia and osteoporosis (including bone mineral density and the role of exercise in managing it!).
Starting Location: Entrance to Grandview Park (Near 499 Bailey Ave)
